Today's game to be reviewed is Darkness by loleris. You can click the link at the bottom of this post to head on over to his game! To begin, I personally think he's done very well on this game. It's only in the Beta stage, so it's not completely finished. When you enter the game, there's usually a wait time since it's the type of game that has rounds. The wait time isn't long at all, so that's no worries. Once a new round begins, you're usually a survivor. Your goal is to survive from the, "Beast" and defeat it by shooting him.
The Beast |
It may not seem too frightening at first glance, but the beast has a slightly faster walkspeed than you. I'm not exactly sure how much health he has in total, but it's enough to last for quite a while. Your gun only has eight rounds, and takes a bit more time to reload than most guns in ROBLOX games. Each shot does 5 damage on-hit. Notice the doors in the background, too. They have those square-green buttons. You need to be facing those glowing buttons, and press, "E" to open the doors. Some door buttons may be glowing red, indicating that the current door is locked. If the button is yellow, then it's temporarily disabled. The Beast deals damage by a scythe, which seems a bit overpowered to me. I personally haven't played as the best yet, as for it is rare. But it seems like the scythe you are provided can be used as fast as you can possibly click. You can also see, "Energy" on the beast. If his energy runs out, then he dies. Simple as that. It doesn't run out very quickly, though. I personally think the energy adds a great aspect to the game, because it adds some-sort of time limit to rounds.
Having much damage dealt feels great, especially since loleris added in a leaderboard at the end of every round showing the top five people who has dealt the most damage in greatest to least.
You can do more damage by finding another gun laying around somewhere in the map. So far, all I have found is a Desert Eagle, which does a total of eight damage per shot on-hit. You can also find extra items around the map that randomly spawn. These only items that are in the game currently is Medical Kits and Batteries. (As far as I know.)
These medical kits are used for obvious reasons, but the batteries on the other hand is used for night vision. Beware though, night vision sounds pretty awesome..But only one battery probably lasts you around 5 seconds of night vision goodness, so use every bit of that battery wisely. Sometimes, the beast can drain your light flash light (And all other light sources such as ceiling lights.) making you loose all sight in the map. The only lights that are on is the door buttons, which are all yellow- So there's no escaping the room you're in during the time of the light outage.
This game also makes a good use of sound effects, and lighting effects!
The score I give loleris for his game: Darkness, I give it a 7.8 out of 10. It's a great horror ROBLOX game, and I can see it going pretty far. I don't care too much for ROBLOX horror games, as for most of them don't really give you that scare you're looking for. Yet, loleris did make a good use of the sounds and lighting to add that scare-effect you've been looking for! I'm not a personal fan of the, "Paid Access" feature on ROBLOX, but if he did make this game Paid Access, then I could see him make a lot of ROBUX off of it. I for one, would actually pay to play this great game! Observe the Pros and Cons below.
PROS
- Good size map. If you know you're way around it well, then you'll be good at playing the beast and defeating all players!
- Finally a ROBLOX game that gives off a good Horror feel to it.
- The Beast has energy, giving the game a time limit.
- The Beast doesn't have an extreme amount of health. It's juuust right!
- A very limited amount of extra guns & supplies. So not EVERYONE can be overpowered.
- Great Sound Effects!
- Great Lighting Effects!
- End-Round Scoreboard, which gives off a feeling of accomplishment. Also challenges other players to have the highest score, which that adds more gameplay in my opinion.
CONS
Scythe could be nerfed a bit. Instead of a constant slash to do massive amounts of damage very quickly, it could be a very tiny time limit to attack. Such as a 0.5 second wait between slashes.
